FLAG-WAVING crowds cheered as they welcomed home Royal Marine
Commandos returning from Afghanistan.
The six-hundred heroes from the Commando Logistic Regiment had
just finished a six-month tour in Helmand Province. Hundreds of
people took to the streets of Barnstaple, Devon, to celebrate
their homecoming.
Regimental spokesman Lieutenant Andy Cheal said: "Every member
of the Regiment was overwhelmed by the turnout we saw today."
After the parade the Regiment returned to their barracks at
Chivenor to receive medals.
Two empty spaces were left on the parade ground for Corporal Rob Deering and Marine Damian Davis, who were killed in Helmand.
Lieutenant Cheal said: "They will never be forgotten."
Green Beret Reservists
Commando Combat Logistics across
the whole of Helmand has moved at a frenetic pace, they have kept the supplies moving to where ever they were required, enabling the Commando troops insertions into Taliban held territory to be totally successful.
For the man on the front line to assault where and when he
chooses; the supplies he requires must be at hand for him to complete his mission.
Each person doing their job efficiently is what makes a great team, the person delivering the goods to the front is equally as important as the one with his finger on the trigger.
Combat Logistic convoys are easily spotted in desert conditions
by the dust clouds they produce, they are therefore vulnerable
to attack, but they still have to get the supplies through; and
they do.
No matter what the conditions are like, wherever the Commandos are, they can count on Logistics to get their supplies through to them.

During their recent tour of Helmand
they have launched 21 Combat Logistic Patrols, delivering over 4,000 tons of material and over 1,500,000 litres of fuel. The drivers have driven for almost 500 hours and covered over 4,000 kilometres of hostile environment the Helmand Province.
Combat Logistics Patrols rely upon their Protection Groups to give them a safe passage. Gurkhas and Royal Marines fearlessly carve a safe passage through enemy territory for the patrols.
With over 20 explosives occasions and rocket and small arms attacks the Protection Groups bear the brunt of the action giving a selfless contribution towards the Regiments achievements.
Professionalism has been our hallmark, we remember Corporal Rob
Deering Royal Marine and we remember Royal Marine Damian Davies, our legacy reflects the blood, sweat and tears from every member of our Regiment.
