A delightful day out...

The Royal Marines Museum, situated on the seafront at Southsea, Portsmouth, is a proud and welcoming Museum set in striking Victorian surroundings.

Based in the lavishly decorated former Officers' Mess of Eastney Barracks, built in the 1860s for the Royal Marine Artillery, the Museum is situated in the very heart of their history.

From their origins in 1664 through to their roles in areas ranging from Trafalgar through to China, the Falklands and the Gulf, every aspect of their past can be seen at the Museum.

The Museum is an ideal venue for a group visit, offering "free" coach parking, full disabled access, hearing loops and highly trained staff to assist you. As a Quality Assured Visitor Attraction" you can be safe in the knowledge your trip will be a memorable experience.

When and where to find us

The Royal Marines Museum is situated on the seafront to the east of Southsea, Portsmouth.

It is openall year from 10am to 5pm (excluding Christmas)

Travelling by coach, the best routes are via the A3(M) from London, M3 from Winchester, M27 from Southampton and A27 from Chichester.

For those travelling from the west, the Museum can be found by taking junction 12 of the M27 onto the A27, then the A288.

From the east to Portsmouth, the Museum can be found by taking the A2030 junction off the A27, turning south on the A288.

Brown information signs will lead you to the Museum.

2008 was their 50th Anniversary

In 2008 The Royal Marines Museum proudly celebrated its 50th Anniversary; with exciting new exhibitions like "The Making of the Royal Marines Commando".

It Opened in June with numerous special events throughout the year.

The sumptuous surroundings will be home to everything from fun family workshops and the "Museums at Night" event through to the band of Her Majesties Royal Marines, Portsmouth playing in the grounds.

Needless to say, there will always be something for everyone...
