SBS Kuwait

The Country

Was Shrouded in Mystery

The previous page was: "SBS Faylakah"

SBS Kuwait; Kuwait the Country had been invaded by Iraq its lands were packed with the Iraqi troops. The Chinese Silkworm missiles made an airborne invasion vitually impossible; without the inevitable large numbers of casualties.

One foot of crude oil floated thickly all over the waters of the Persian Gulf; the risk of fire making an amphibious attack highly unlikely.

Saddam's Iraqi forces thought they held all of the winning cards.

It was a job for the SBS who were near Kuwait; they always go in fast, hit the enemy hard, and nothing stops them.

This had the hall marks of another simple job; just go ashore and plant special devices to guide smart bombs directly onto their targets. The bombing needed to be precise so as not to cause more damage than was necessary to the Palaces and other expensive buildings.

SBS Faylakah

Devices to guide smart bombs

Those SBS near Kuwait weighed up the task; they made sure that the equipment they needed was waterproof, or covered for protection.

Then like frogs they entered the water; then they swam underneath the black crude oil sludge unti they reached the area of shore where they needed to be.

Before coming out of the water they took off their diving equipment leaving it on the seabed. Then they slipped large plastic bags over the top of their heads before coming out of the sea. They then waded through the thick sludge.

The bags were removed and discarded then they vanished into the shadows of a bombed out building and took up observation positions.

There was no fear of detection nobody in the world expected the SBS to land this way; that is why their motto: 'Not By Strength By Guile' is so true.

The Silkworms out of commission

Once they had the situation weighed up, they keenly set about their tasks placing the devices exactly where they were required.

They switched them on and moved away to plant the next one.

When their mission was completed they laid up and waited for the bombers to arrive. Each bomb scored a direct hit on its target with amazing accuracy.

With only their phones left they set about finding the positions of the unknown silkworm missiles. Taking a chance of being detected they sent coded text messages of where to bomb the silkworm missile positions.

With the Silkworms out of commission the attack to regain Kuwait began. The SBS of the Royal Marine Commandos were the first to go in using helicopters they were dropped onto the roof of the British Embassy.

They were soon joined by their wetsuit comrades who had swam into Kuwait. The liberation of Kuwait had begun.

It was another case of the SBS doing what the wet suit warriors of the Royal Marines do best; turn up and kick the door down, their enemies are incapable of stopping them.
