The United States Marines officially formed on 10th November 1775. Since that day they have grown to become the most powerful Marine Fighting Force in the world.
Their brave spirit has earned them respect world wide; and their smartness of dress is unequalled.
With no official residence the inns and the taverns were the meeting places for politics, including the founding of the Corps.
The resolution was approved at the Tun Tavern on the date above for the formation of the 'Continental Marines'.
They gathered support, and were ready for action by early 1776.

November the 10th
Each year, the Marine Corps marks November the 10th with a celebration of the Brave Spirit; which compelled these men and thousands since to defend the their country; as the United States Marines.
1805 the US Government stopped paying the Barbary Coast pirates to refrain from raiding American merchant ships.
Lt. Presley O'Bannon marched his Marines 600 miles across the Libyan desert.
They stormed the fortified Tripolitan city of Derna and rescued the kidnapped crew of USS Philadephia.

The Battle of Chapultepec
1847 'The Battle of Chapultepec' the US Marines stormed the enemy fortress the "Hall of Montezuma" 'Palacio Nacional' Chapultepec, Mexico.
The battle lasted two days before they could raise the Stars and Stripes to mark the victory.
1901 China, the Boxer Rebellion. A secret society took hold in
China; the 'Boxers' anti-Western attitudes foreign homes and
businesses were being burnt to the ground.
The Chinese government refused to step in. 500 US sailors and leather necks triumphed in quelling the rebellion. Their deployment at a moments notice proved to be indispensable.
The Marines are renowned for the prominent roll they play in war anywhere in the world.
